Using the library from a distance

Library staff can assist distance users to find resources which can be made available by post, email or fax.

Books can be selected from the on-line catalogue, or staff may be able to suggest books and articles on your topic.

Articles can be printed directly from e-journals, or staff are able to scan or photocopy individual articles from print journals and email or post/fax them to you

Some of the links on this web site may also lead you to suitable resources

Requesting books online

1.  Go to the Library web page at www.kinderlibrary.ac.nz.

2.  Find the link LIBRARY CATALOGUE and click on it

3.  Click on the EASY SEARCH for a simple search

4.  Do a keyword search by typing the author and/or main words from the title into the search field  (example: davidson christianity aotearoa) then hit the ENTER key.

5.  When you find a book record that looks useful, click in the box to the left of the title.

6.  At the bottom of the list, click on Add selected titles to reserves list, then Add.

7.  When you’ve added all the titles to your reserves list, click on Process reserves list.

8.  When the next screen asks for your login details, use your barcode number (the one on the back of your library card that begins P000... ) for the  USER NAME box and the final four digits of the barcode for your PIN.

When staff receive your book  request, your book(s) will be parcelled up and sent off to you. It will generally be in the following day’s mail, so please alert us if the request is urgent.

Note that your login to the e-journals may not be available immediately as your access details are loaded manually.

Please email kinderlibrary@stjohns.auckland.ac.nz if there are any problems.

You may place reservations for books on loan to another borrower.
Certain items may not be borrowed. This includes books from the reference collection, from special collections, periodicals, and items on desk copy (short loan) within the library.

Loan period

The loan period is four weeks.  Books may be renewed for a further four weeks via the online catalogue.  After this, books must be brought back into the library to be renewed.

Fines
A fine is payable on all overdue items: it is suggested that you request a limited number of items at a time, so that you can use them before the return date.

A reminder notice is sent by email just before a book comes due.
An overdue notice is sent a week later with a $1.00 per item.

An accounts for full replacement value plus a handling charge are sent for all items not returned or renewed following these notices

Reference and photocopying service

Articles from periodicals and up small sections of a book can be photocopied or scanned for you at 10 cents per page. If the article is available via one of the Library’s online e-journal collections, you will be directed to that source rather than the library sending a photocopy.

Email library staff
kinderlibrary@stjohns.auckland.ac.nz if you need assistance in finding what you need.
