Papers Past has just added the Maori Anglican newspapers ‘He Kupu Whakamarama’ and ‘Te Pipiwharauroa’. These papers were edited by then Reverend Frederick Augustus Bennett between 1898 and 1913.
Bennett was born at Lake Rotorua in 1871 and in 1883 was awarded a scholarship to St Stephen’s Native Boys School in Auckland. He was appointed as Bishop of Aotearoa in 1928, New Zealand’s first Maori Bishop.
These have been made available through the University of Waikato.
