A Letter to John Kinder

A gifted letter to John Kinder was discovered in the archives

In 1855 John Kinder was appointed to the position of Headmaster at the Church of England Grammar School in Auckland, which was then part of St John’s College.  He previously was the Master at Alleyne’s Grammar School at Uttoxeter in England. The parish strongly disagreed with his adherence to the high church ceremony and they started a partition to have him removed. Amongst the books donated to the college by John Kinder, a letter to John Kinder was found, signed by his students in England wishing him luck on his journey to New Zealand.
