Ever seen a Silver Book of Common Prayer?
A recent addition to the Kinder Library is a curious copy of a silver ‘The Book of Common Prayer’ which was found online by one of our eagle-eyed librarians.
If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures
Proverbs 2:4
While the book’s subject may be of no surprise at a Theological library, its tiny size (measuring just six centimetres lengthways) makes it unique. The most notable feature, however, is the gleaming front cover made of sterling silver.
The cover is hallmarked by Levi & Salaman, Birmingham, 1905.
Fascinating discovery – is it dated to 1907? How much is its value if it were to be auctioned?
